13:00 - 17:00 | Mellifont Abbey, Mellifont, Tullyallen, Co. Louth |

Everybody is welcome to Louth’s first Cruinniú na Cásca, a free family day-out, combining music, storytelling, visual arts, craft and heritage, and a few surprises!
Some of the best of Louth’s cultural gems will be showcased in the beautiful setting of Mellifont Abbey, the first Cistercian monastery in Ireland. The ruins of the near-900 year-old Abbey are situated on the banks of the River Mattock, 10km north-west of Drogheda. The ruins will play host to, among others, Louth traditional music band Kern, and near-legendary fiddler Gerry O’Connor. Archaeologist Geraldine Stout will be on hand to explain the Abbey itself, and craftspeople will be making and selling their Louth-inspired wares. Add in activities for kids, some fine Louth-produced food and drink, and Cruinniú na Cásca in Louth looks set to be a memorable celebration.
A free community bus will run from Drogheda. There is limited car parking at Mellifont Abbey.
